ASSESSMENTS

Evaluation by a Rainbows Professional

How does one measure a masterpiece? Who can determine its potential and purpose? Here at Rainbows, we see every child as a valuable treasure, precious and unique. Our skilled experts are able to perform assessments not to determine your child’s limitations, but to reveal their promise.

Screenings and Assessments

When your child receives services from Rainbows United, they might receive a screening, an assessment, or an evaluation. It might be helpful to start with a definition of what these things are.

Screenings

A screening is a quick look at how a child is doing developmentally. Screenings done by Rainbows focus on the areas of speech, language, vision, hearing, and behavior. The information for this screening is provided by the caregiver.

Departments at Rainbows that provide screenings for children who are enrolled in services:

    – Connecting Point – through Screen for Success
    – Early Care and Education
    – Mental Health Services

Assessments

Sometimes, a screening may indicate a need for further assessment. An assessment is a closer look at how a child is doing in a specific area. Some departments at Rainbows provide an assessment to determine goals for the work that will be done with a child.

Evaluations

An evaluation is a specific type of test that is conducted to help determine a child’s eligibility for a program at Rainbows. It is more in-depth and can take more time to complete than a screening. It can gather information from a variety of sources: parent report, observation, medical report, etc.

Once a screening, assessment, or evaluation is complete, the caregiver will be provided with the results and the Rainbows worker will describe what future action will take place.
