Our goal is for families and their children to receive the care they need to lead a successful, happy family life. Family Support Services offer structured time and activities as well as the opportunity for individuals to choose their own fun. Rainbows' Family Support Services staff strives to offer person-centered environments so we meet the developmental needs of children and young adults.
Rainbows' Respite Care provides families with a much-needed break from the daily care of children or young adults with disabilities. While trained staff are caring for your loved one, you can do the dishes, go grocery shopping, spend time on a date or whatever is helpful to you. There are two different types of care available:
In-Home Respite:

On-Going Home Care or Supportive Home Care -- regularly occurring care provided in the family's or provider's home. Requests should be written in the format of a monthly schedule and received at least seven days before the beginning date of service. This on-going, regularly scheduled service provides daily routines like bathing, meal times or getting a child on or off the bus.

Occasional Care -- occasional or temporary assistance of at least three hours in the family's home or in the provider's licensed home. Requests must be made by parents or guardians and should be received at least seven days before the date of service. Care may be outings and occur anytime day or night depending on funding. This service is helpful when you have that occasional wedding or meeting to attend. Staff can assist your loved one in attending with you or can care for your child elsewhere.
Center-Based Respite:

Latchkey was developed in response to parents' requests for assistance before and after school and on days when the local school system is closed. Latchkey operates weekday mornings and afternoons at Kids' Cove, 2258 North Lakeway Circle, Wichita. Open as early as 7 a.m. and as late as 5:45 p.m. for children kindergarten age through 21 (if they attended school the previous year).

Weekend Center is a recreational weekend program for children with multiple disabilities. This service is offered through Kids' Cove, 2258 North Lakeway Circle for children kindergarten age through 21. Hours are:
Saturdays 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Sundays 1:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Camp Woodchuck is a summer recreational and leisure program for children and youth with multiple disabilities who are kindergarten through 21 years (if they attended school the previous year). Camp Woodchuck is an appropriate setting for people who have restricted mobility and/or use wheelchairs as their primary form of mobility.

Family Support Services are available to children Kindergarten enrolled through the year after they
graduate from high school who:

Have a diagnosis of intellectual disability and/or developmental disability.

Have an IEP
-
Live in a family's home
Family Support Services can be funded through private pay (a sliding fee scale is available), Family Support or Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) funding through the Sedgwick County Developmental Disabilities Organization (SCDDO).
